ART GALLERY |

Adjacent to a recently completed apartment the art gallery is designed as a flexible space that can accommodate always changing: two dimensional, three dimensional and video art work. Overnight lodging for visiting art critics and facilities for entertaining moderate size groups are integral to the program. The plan is conceived as one large volume with a central plaster core housing a kitchenette, bathroom and a transformable sleeping area. Concrete is left exposed on the ceiling as well as installed as a finish floor. A simple pallet is maintained through-out the main volume where art is displayed. Rich materials are in areas of special use: wood insertions at the entry and in the sleeping area, highly polished red cabinetry at the kitchenette and a complete enclosure by translucent fiberglass panels in the bath area. A stainless steel grid through-out the space defines the zone overhead as well as providing an armature for lighting, art hanging, and data support for installations. Wall display surfaces are comprised of both fixed planes and large operable panels allowing artwork to be displayed continuously. Art work dominates the viewing areas; materials and texture dominate the defined spaces within the central plaster core. Photos by Paul Warchol, Paul Warchol Photography.
